Flats Fishing About
About Flats Fishing In South Florida
|
Flats fishing has become popular all over the world. Different techniques are used depending on tides, weather, species, and location. South Florida's flats are unique because of two major reasons. The first is the climate, which allows us fish all year long. The second, is the wide range of species we can target. No where else in the world can you spend the morning chasing Snook, Redfish, and Trout in the Everglades then target Bonefish, Permit, and Tarpon a few miles south in the keys.
Flats Fishing in south Florida normally consists of either light tackle spinning gear 10-15 lb. test or even fly fishing gear using 8-12 weight rods. Both are fun it just depends on the preferance of the angler. When booking a trip just specify what you are accustomed to using. Your captain will assure you will have the right setup during your charter. If you would like to learn to fly fish you can even request for your captain to bring both types of gear. You can spend the morning catching fish with light tackle rods and towards the end of the charter you can get a short lesson learning to cast a fly rod and maybe even catch a fish or two. For those of you accustomed to using Bait Casting rods please be sure to mention this to your guide. We do not carry these types of rods every day.
